Keidy is a darling 8 year-old from Colombia who has been diagnosed with Apert syndrome, a congenital disorder characterized by malformations of the skull, face, hands and feet. The severity of Keidy’s condition is evident by her webbed fingers and feet, as well as her cranial and facial abnormalities.
By means of a partnership between CFC, International Kids Fund at Jackson Memorial Hospital and Pastoral Care at Baptist Hospital, she was evaluated extensively by several doctors in November and December of 2009.
It was determined that Keidy's quality of life could be greatly improved by several costly surgeries to repair her malformed skull and hands. In July, under the leadership of Dr. Rafael Gottenger, a team of CFC volunteer surgeons, including Drs. Jose Garri and John Ragheb, will perform the first intricate surgery at Miami Children's Hospital.
Update August 20, 2010:
Keidy is due to be discharged from Miami Children’s Hospital very soon. She will continue to recuperate at the Ronald Mc Donald House, Miami. Once her doctors feel she have recovered enough to travel, she will return to Colombia. Keidy and her mom will return to Miami in 3-6 months for her 2nd surgery at Baptist Hospital for her hands and eye.
If you would like to send Keidy a get well card or note, please send to: Attn: Mrs. Toni Garner, Child Foundation Charity 930 Washington Ave, Suite 206, Miami Beach, FL 33139. Mrs. Garner will be sure Keidy receives all your well wishes.
Update July 30, 2010:
Keidy spent 10+ hours today in surgery for the first and most critical part of her reconstruction. Her cranial/facial surgery began early today and after 10+ hours at the hands of four of Child Foundation's most generous and talented surgeons, she is now recovering in ICU for the next 48 hours.
Update May 27, 2010:
Keidy will be returning to Miami in June for her “pre-op” appointments and will be scheduled for her first surgery sometime in July 2010.
