Juan Andres

Juan as a baby

Juan Andres, a seven-year-old boy from El Salvador, came to us in need of further reconstructive surgery. He was born with multiple facial clefts through the mid-portion of his face and left eye (Frontonasal Dysplasia).

He had had four initial surgeries by Dr. S. Anthony Wolfe before Child Foundation Charity was asked to help sponsor his fifth surgery. The 5-hour surgery for medial canthopexies, frontal defect correction and nose revision took place at Miami Children’s Hospital on July 12, 2007. Child Foundation Charity was able to cover the $19,800 cost of continuing the reconstruction of Juan’s face.

For Juan’s return to his home in El Salvador, a special mask was made to protect his face so that he may continue to play soccer and squash. Recently, Juan won the only gold medal for El Salvador in a Latin-American juvenile squash tournament.

Juan Andres was one of our special guests at our fundraising gala.

UPDATE

February 2010: Juan and his family are thrilled with his last reconstruction, made possible by CFC. We are awaiting recent pictures of this happy and self-confident 11-year-old
